DIY Ferromagnetic Desk Toy

In this science experiment, we walk through how create a visual representation of the magnetic field around a magnet. Using iron filings, lamp or vegetable oil, a clear glass container, and a neodymium magnet, we create an environment that shows off the wonders of magnetism! To use this experiment for a science fair project, consider questions like: Does the thickness of the liquid affect the behavior of the iron filings? Do different magnet strengths cause different outcomes with the filings?
